These Cards Before Me

E. E. Cummings has a very unique style of writing, playing with spacing and combining words together. One of my favourites is Amores (II), seen here.

these cards before me

offer questions

and answers

(though to what questions they answer

is unknown)

they offer futures

of hope

of hopelessness

of loveorloss

but only one can tell

their secrets to you

they state that things

are not what they seem

Death does not mean death;

rather a change

the Devil is not to be feared,

it rather tells us

confront what you’ve been neglecting

what does this mean?

only the cards before me

know
